1928年他與友人Bruno Munari共同撰寫《繪畫宣言》，以「反對自然主義」作為宗旨。在此時期，他完成畫作《最後的晚餐》，奠定了其充滿詩意性的繪畫風格。同年，他獲邀在義大利雙年展展出，受到他的故鄉薩丁尼雅島景色啟發，他的作品經常充滿溫暖與明亮色調。
